Calderara Sottana Prephylloxera Etna Rosso DOC “La Vigna di Don Peppino”

In Calderara Sottana, in front and to the right of our cellar, in a vineyard of about four hectares there are two parcels that have survived the phylloxera. Considering that the phylloxera arrived on Etna in 1881, the vines are therefore over 140 years old, and are ungrafted.
“In 2006, when I became aware of the peculiarity of this little gem, I decided to vinify the grapes separately. The vintage was splendid, almost monumental. These grapes gave us a wine of almost supernatural finesse. Although the adjoining vineyards produced a beautiful wine with a very similar character, the prefillosseric vineyards seemed to graze on celestial lands: the quintessence of Calderara. He is more shy and wants more patience. I rarely recommend decanting a wine, but in this case I make an exception. Her elegance is always measured, her authority kind, her refinement graceful. A magnificent wine. I suggest several savory courses in moderate quantities. Allow the wine to grow with the accompanying dinner. ”
